11. The Mummies of Venzone
For many, many years, a mysterious secret surrounded the cathedral of Venzone, Udine, Italy. Bodies in the tombs, instead of decomposing naturally, were perfectly preserved and were still very recognizable many years later, leading to the people to retrieve and commune often with their deceased loved ones. At present, scientist finally traced this mystery to Hypha tombicina, parasitic fungus that quickly dehydrates the dead bodies before they can even decompose first.
